SCOTT SEES SEAGULLS’ STRUGGLES CONTINUE

WESTON-S-M 0 EBBSFLEET U 2

SCOTT BARTLETT tasted defeat in his first match as Weston-super Mare head coach when high-flying Ebbsfleet ran out 2-0 winners – inflicting a ninth league defeat in a row on the Seagulls.

The visitors took the lead after six minutes when Weston failed to clear their lines.

Danny Kedwell’s superb solo run was followed by an emphatic finish from just inside the box.

Weston’s best chance of the half fell to Jordan Williams and it proved to be a costly miss.

Dayle Grubb broke free of the defence and slid the ball to the leftback. It only needed the slightest of touches but somehow his shot sailed way over the bar.

Four minutes after the break Ebbsfleet doubled their advantage.

Darren McQueen went on a run after a brilliant through-ball from Sam Deering. His speed and power saw him hold off any pressure and he hammered home.

There was then a very bizarre few minutes as Ebbsfleet were penalised for a pass-back, which no-one else in the stadium saw, and an indirect free-kick was handed to the home side.

The delayed set-play was eventually taken but the Seagulls were still unable to score and keeper Nathan Ashmore gathered the ball to ensure the Fleet secured another three points in their promotion hunt.
