GREEN MARCH RIGHT TO THE TOP

- By Matt Badcock

NEIL SMITH hailed Bromley’s belief as they came from behind to earn a point against high-flying Lincoln City – and the boss was cursing the brilliance of Imps keeper Paul Farman for it not being more. Farman made a string of saves late on after Blair Turgott had cancelled out Harry Anderson’s fine individual opener. It was probably a fair result for two sides who had both won two on the bounce – and Smith was pleased with Bromley’s performance. “When you’ve got a team the size of Lincoln and their aspirations to be in the League, I don’t think many people would have given us a chance today,” Smith said. “So to get the draw was fantastic, but I thought their keeper was fantastic. We went to win today, we didn’t set up to draw. The subs we brought on were all attacking players because we believed we could get the result. The boys believed it as well and I think they’ve done themselves justice.” Both keepers were in fine form. Farman was in action as early as the third minute when Rob Swaine hit a fierce volley. Defender Swaine was nearly on the scoresheet seven minutes later, only this time at the other end, as Alan Julian came to the rescue with a brilliant reflex save to keep out the Bromley man’s sliced clearance. The wait for a goal was over less than 60 seconds after the break. Anderson picked the ball up on the left, drove forward before cutting inside and firing the Imps ahead with a low shot that went in off the post. Julian then made a fine stop from Jack Muldoon and its importance was realised on 65 minutes. Lincoln twice failed to clear their lines and Turgott capitalised by drilling a low dipping shot into the bottom corner from outside the box. Finally a game broke out as the action swung end-to-end. Farman wasn’t to know there was an offside flag when his instinctive reaction pushed Lee Minshull’s header over. Swaine certainly was onside when his downward header was beaten away by Farman, before the stopper got out to deny Daniel Ajakaiye as the substitute raced through on goal. “Paul made some good saves,” Imps boss Danny Cowley said. “And how their goalkeeper made the one in the first half I’ll never know. So both keepers came out with credit. Paul is very good at that – that’s what he’s paid to do. “We’ve got a two-week break from the league now, which is nice because we get a chance to freshen up. We’re in a good position in the league at this stage and now we’ve got the FA Cup.”
