LINNETT MATTY’S ON THE MEND AFTER KO

-

KING’S LYNN Town defender Matty Castellan is on the road to recovery after suffering a head injury that Linnets boss Gary Setchell described as the worst he’s seen in football in 30 years.

The 21-year-old was knocked unconscious after contesting a header with Justin Leavers in their Southern League Cup game with St Ives Town on Tuesday night.

The second-half was held up for around 40 minutes while Castellan was treated on the pitch before being taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Boss Setchell, who praised the efforts of physio Phil Ward, confirmed on twitter on Thursday that the youngster was expected to be released from hospital on Friday.

A club statement said: “King’s Lynn would like to thank supporter Paul Hampson and officials of St Ives Town who assisted Phil with caring for Matty. Matty’s family would also like to thank their supporters and teammates for their messages of support at this crucial time.”

Meanwhile, Dorchester Town have thanked their own staff – as well as Hayes & Yeading’s – after their defender Nathan Walker suffered severe whiplash to his neck.

Sunday’s Southern League Premier game was held up for 70 minutes while the 30-year-old was treated following a clash with his own goalkeeper Shane Murphy and United’s Yannis Ambriosine.

Walker was taken to Wexham Hospital where he was given the all clear after an x-ray and CT scan.

The Magpies said: “We would like to thank club physio Emma Tonkin, Neil Mackie and the Hayes & Yeading physio team for their sterling work ensuring Nathan was looked after.”
