MARINE 2 ILKESTON 2
THESE two teams shared four firsthalf goals in an entertaining game.
Ilkeston took the lead in the 10th minute when Ben Morris to burst into the box before crashing the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards.
Midway through the half Ilkeston were twoup, Luis Rose's volley taking a wicked deflection past 'keeper Calvin Hare.
Robins’ custodian Ross Durrant excellently parried Billy Smart's volley.
But Marine pulled one back on 27 minutes with Danny Mitchley’s deflected volley.
And they levelled ten minutes before the break, Kurt Sherlock netting from the penalty spot after Jaylon Bather clumsily impeded Lewis Field.
Sherlock then spurned a gilt-edged chance to give the Mariners the lead just two minutes later, scuffed his shot in front of goal.
After the break, Durrant saved Warren Bellew’s free-kick and Mitchley’s 25-yarder before Morris volleyed over for the Robins.
Durrant had to be at his best again to save twice from Sherlock.
For all Marine's pressure Ilkeston twice came close late on. James Short’s tremendous last-ditch block denied Matt Baker before Hare produced a top-class save to keep out Bather’s header.
But Durrant made three even later interventions to deny Sherlock twice and Mitchley.
