CHIPPENHAM T 3 HAYES & Y U 0

- By Colin Payne

ANDY SANDELL’S second half hat-trick saw Chippenham win an eventful match that had fireworks on and off the pitch, with Hayes & Yeading getting reduced to nine men.

Bluebirds striker Dave Pratt struck the side netting early on and his later appeal for a penalty went unheeded.

A Lloyd Macklin strike on the half hour brought home keeper Darren Chitty into action, while his counterpart Louis Wells turned Matt Smith’s 30-yarder over before the break.

Macklin should have put the visitors ahead in the second half but contrived to fire off-target.

At the other end, Wells pulled off a super save to keep out Alex Ferguson’s header before Sandell gave Chippenham a 59th minute lead.

With less than ten minutes remaining, Wells received a second yellow card after bringing down Pratt in the box. Sandell stepped up to put the spot kick past substitute keeper Mo Otuwo on 81 minutes.

Both managers were sent to the stands after this incident and there was more to follow as a coming together between Bluebird Jon Beeden and United’s Cole Brown saw the latter given a straight red card for retaliation.

The visitors battled on with nine men into stoppage time, extended due to the various incidents, allowing Sandell to completed his hat trick in the 95th minute.
