KINGS’ PAIR STAY UNITED AT HAYES

- By Sam Elliott

HAYES & YEADING have finally filled their managerial vacancy – and they are getting closer to knowing when they are returning home.

The Southern Premier side have struggled to adapt since their relegation from the National League South, forcing Mickey Lewis, 51, to leave his position nearly four weeks ago.

Now United have struck a deal to bring Kings Langley bosses Paul Hughes and Ritchie Hanlon to the club.

Despite Langley being above them in the table, they have left their league rivals after guiding the club to back-to-back promotions into Step 3.

They won’t officially start work until Monday, with caretaker Tristan Lewis – who will now return to his role of director of football.

Chairman Tony O’Driscoll said: “We’re delighted. They have an excellent record together at Kings Langley and we hope they can replicate that here.

“They took the club from Spartan South Midlands Division One into the Southern Premier, where they are enjoying their first season at this level. We think they can move us forward.”

O’Driscoll says Hayes will be returning to Beaconsfield Road in the “very near future” after being forced out months after moving in having been in exile for nearly five years.

The chairman had to find in excess of £50,000 to secure a safety certificate because of electrical and tarmacing problems.
