REDS ALERT AS LAW TAKES OFF THE SHACKLES

- By Joshua Peck

ALFRETON TOWN manager Nicky Law has told his players to go and show the nation what they are made of this afternoon with an FA Cup upset the order of the day. The Reds host League Two basement side Newport County, having beaten Gateshead in a replay in the fourth qualifying round. With the likes of Jamie Vardy, Andre Gray and Charlie Austin showing the transition is possible, Law believes this is the perfect opportunity for his players to put themselves in the shop window. He told The NLP: “There are a lot of good players in Non-League who haven’t had the chance to play in the Football League. A lot of lads can also earn more money with their jobs and football rather than playing full-time so they choose to do that. “There are plenty of players that have got moves off good performances in the FA Cup and I’ve told my players that. There will be highlights shown on national TV so it’s a great chance for someone to be watching and spot a player.” Graham Westley brings his Newport side to the Impact Arena having only taken over at the club a month ago. And Law knows he brings a wealth of NonLeague experience with him. Law added: “Newport are probably on the ascendancy with the new manager. He’s changed things there and changed the ethos, they’re probably playing a different way and it’s going to be a tough game for us. “Westley has done the Non-League scene and he will know there isn’t a massive difference in the standards of the leagues. There may be over a whole season, but in a one-off game, I don’t think there is. “It’s one that we feel, if we’re at it and play at our best, then we have a chance of getting a positive result. There will be an upset this weekend and there’s no reason why it couldn’t be us.”
