YOUNG GUNS WANT FUN AT THE SEASIDE

- By Steven Coney

KIDDERMINSTER Harriers skipper Keith Lowe reckons the club’s young stars can give Blackpool the runaround later today. The National League North club travel to Bloomfield Road in fine form having lost just once in their last nine matches. Included in that run was the 6-0 thrashing of Southern Premier side Weymouth in the last round of the FA Cup and Lowe says Harriers’ youthful team are capable of causing an upset. The 31-year-old knows all too well how difficult some of them are to play against – he experiences it every day in training! “It’s nice to represent not only ourselves but also our league against a Football League team in Blackpool,” the former Cheltenham and York defender said. “We’ve got a very young squad and quite a few of the lads won’t have played in a stadium the size of Blackpool’s so it’s a great opportunity for them to impress. “It’s nice to be one of the older lads and have that responsibility but I do struggle a bit to keep up with the youngsters at times!” Harriers, under rookie boss John Eustace, have enjoyed a promising start to the campaign and sat third in the National League North heading into the weekend. Blackpool, a Premier League side just five years ago, are in turmoil with fans boycotting games over how the club is being run by owners the Oyston family. And how Kiddy would love to pile on the misery and see their name in the third round draw. Lowe added: “The stage is set for us all. You get to play against a Football League team, there will be scouts there and it’s a fantastic chance for the lads to show what they can do. “We play attractive football and there’s plenty of quality in the team. We’ll go to Blackpool with no fear – it’s a bonus game for us.”
