EBBSFLEET U 4 HARROW BORO 2

- By Charles Webster

EBBSFLEET UNITED made sure there was no FA Trophy upset as they beat Harrow Borough at Stonebridge Road.

With less than two minutes on the clock, the Fleet won a free-kick 25 yards from the Harrow goalline. Set-piece maestro Jack Powell seized the chance to plant the ball beyond keeper Keval Patel and into the net off a post to put the Conference South side ahead. The goal was his tenth of the season.

Bradley Bubb scored for the third successive game when he squeezed the ball between Patel and his near post on 19 minutes and three minutes later Patel could only watch as Charlie Sheringham’s downward header from a corner made it 3-0.

Patel denied Dean Rance by blocking his header on 35 minutes and Jonathan Miles was forced into tipping Michael Peacock’s header away before Powell sliced wide from six yards.

Harrow began the second half on the front foot and got their reward through a Joshua Webb goal on 53 minutes. But Ebbsfleet settled their nerves seven minutes later when Sam Deering was barged over by Shaun Preddie in the area and Anthony Cook scored from the spot.

An 81st-minute goal from Borough skipper Marc Charles-Smith cut the deficit but his side could not add to their tally to take the tie to a replay.
