SAM MAKES IMPRESSIVE IMPACT FOR THE AMMIES

- By Joshua Smith

ALFRETON T 1 SALFORD C 1

BOTH sides pushed hard for a win in this feisty affair but Samuel Walker’s second half equaliser saw both sides share the spoils at the Impact Arena.

Paul Clayton put the Reds ahead, after a cross from the left hand side was headed across goal, leaving the veteran striker to side foot high into the back of the net from close range.

A half of few chances ended with an off the ball incident, diffused well by referee Garreth Rhodes, after Alfreton defender Terry Kennedy was pushed to the floor by Salford forward Richie Allen.

The fall out continued on the sidelines with both sides exchanging words and Mr Rhodes was kept busy up until the half time whistle.

The second half saw plenty of tension and desire with both sides seeingly desperate to win as much for the bragging rights as the three points.

The visitors got their goal with 12 minutes to go as the Reds looked to hold on.

Allen’s cross could only be cleared to the edge of the Alfreton penalty area and Walker was there to fire the loose ball into the back of the net.

Home striker Clayton collided with visiting keeper Jay Lynch in the final moments of the game, a clash that epitomised a fiercely contested encounter. STAR MAN: Brad McGowan (Alfreton) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
