Goalless as weather wins the day

- By Steven Dale

NANTWICH Town and Frickley Athletic will be forced to replay this fixture after their game at the Weaver Stadium was abandoned just four minutes into the second period.

A severe patch of fog made its way across the pitch during the half-time interval.

The game was level at 0-0 when it was forced to finish.

The hosts, fresh from their 4-0 victory over Skelmersdale United, had much of the possession early on and created their first chance in the opening stages.

The hero from that night, though, Matt Bell, could only fire wide from the edge of the area and the chance was gone.

Fans at the game had to wait until the 26th minute for its next opportunity when Ryan Brooke fired over.

A smart turn from the forward created the opening before his powerful effort flew over Sebastian Malkowski’s goal.

A dramatic change of weather, however, was the main talking point as the first-half drew to close and eventually caused play to be stopped.

Following a long consultation between the match referee and both managers, the players left the field for a long-period of time in the hope that the fog would eventually lift.

However, the break in play did nothing to appease the gloomy conditions and even- tually referee Dave Watson called a halt to proceedings, with both teams to face off again at a later date in the season when the arrangements have been made.

Nantwich’s next scheduled league match comes away to Workington on Boxing Day while Frickley Athletic travel to face Spennymoor Town on the same day.

Before then however Nantwich have an FA Trophy clash with Lincoln on Tuesday of this week. STAR MAN: Joe Mwasile (Nantwich) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
