ASHFORD’S ANGST AT PROMOTION OMISSION
ASHFORD United were this week left stunned after finding they were not on the FA list of clubs who have applied for promotion to Step 4. The Southern Counties East Premier table-toppers have been told that their application was not received in time for the November 30 deadline. But club chief executive Denise Peach said that the completed form was posted on November 28 along with a cheque to cover the £120 application fee. And the first she knew that Ashford were not on the list with the 68 other applicants came when a friend noticed the omission when looking at a website. She said: “It appears that the application was not received at Wembley FA offices. “We have been informed that we will have to enter an appeal within 14 days asking for our application to be accepted late. I informed our manager Danny Lye and he is disappointed.” ”We will of course enter the appeal process immediately.” A copy of the application has since been emailed to FA headquarters. The omission is the latest setback for Ashford who lost out on winning the league last season after being docked ten points due to receivership issues, with litigation surrounding them still ongoing.
