EXMOUTH’S TEN PUT IN A FOUR-SOME SHOWING

- By Robin Jones

EXMOUTH TOWN swept aside Kent-based

Corinthian from the more senior Southern Counties East League Premier with a comprehensive 4-0 victory, despite losing captain Karl Rickard on the hour mark for a straight red card.

South West Peninsula League Premier side Exmouth dominated from the off in front of a bumper crowd and pegged Corinthian back before a rash challenge after ten minutes on Aaron Denny on the edge of the box was penalised.

Rickard then powered the ball home from the resultant indirect freekick.

Almost straight from the restart, Town again piled on the pressure and the impressive Jordan Charran was on hand to slot home their second goal from Ace High’s nod down.

Exmouth continued to excel and could have had a third goal only for Denny was denied by the crossbar.

The second half could not have started any better for Exmouth, who extended their lead two minutes after the interval when Charran found himself clean through on goal and easily beat visiting custodian Joe Hagan from ten yards out.

On the 60 minute mark, home skipper Rickard was dismissed for an elbow but, undaunted, Exmouth extended their lead four minutes later when Charran set up Nathan Cooper, who stroked the ball home from close range in the 70th minute.

Corinthian stuck to their plan of playing their passing game, but rarely found a way through and, when they did, Town keeper Chris Wright was in fine form to keep a clean sheet.

Giant killer Southall claimed another scalp when they once again beat higher league opposition in the form of a 4-2 extra-time win at Bradford Town.

In a hard-fought encounter, Wayne Harvey grabbed two goals, with Gary Senior and Adam Louth’s penalty also hitting the net for the Spartan South Midlands Division One outfit, who reached the Vase final 31 years ago.

The Toolstation Western Premier Division side’s goals came from Kane Simpson and Mark Wall, who snatched a stoppage-time equaliser to bring the scores to 2-2 after normal time.

James Taylor’s student side Team Solent made it to the last 16 with a 3-0 home win over Croydon courtesy of goals from Tobi Adkunle, Ellis White and captain Jesse Waller-Lassen.

The sole non-student in the Southamptonbased university side was 38-year-old goalkeeping coach Lee Webber, who deputised for regular stopper Bradley Banda, a member of the Gibraltar under-19 international team, who was unwell.

Hinckley AFC saw off Berkhamsted 5-0 with two strikes from Luke Richards – who scored his 49th and 50th goals for the club – and one each from Lee Butler, Javia Roberts and Ryan Seal.

Dom Lawless gave Newport Pagnell Town the lead against visitors Peterborough Sports, who levelled from the penalty spot through Mark Jones.

Josh Moreman then struck to give favourites Sports the lead with five minutes to go.

But they were pegged back again when Daryl Smith drew the Swans level in the 86th minute – less than two minutes later.

Elliot Sandy made it 32 to hosts Town in a photo finish.

In front of a crowd of 386 supporters, Ely City beat visitors Shepshed

Dynamo 3-0 with two goals from Ashley Shipp, after 31 and 42 minutes, and another from George Darling, five minutes from time.

A 37th-minute goal from Sunderland RCA’s John Butler was sufficient to earn his side a 1-0 win at AFC Mansfield.
