DYNAMIC DAGGERS JUST TOO CLINICAL

- By Phil Withers

RUTHLESS Dagenham handed North Ferriby a lesson in clinical finishing as they rallied to a comfortable win to boost their promotion hopes. Two goals from top scorer Oliver Hawkins and strikes from Fejiri Okenabirhie and the excellent Luke Guttridge settled matters, although Steve Housham’s Villagers matched their visitors for possession. “I didn’t think the game was really a 4-0 scoreline but they were just more clinical than us in front of goal,” Housham admitted. “We gave it a go and have played worse and won.” And Daggers counterpart John Still agreed to an extent, adding: “The first-half was quite tight but I think that the longer the game went on, the more we dominated it. “Ferriby don’t concede many goals so you have to be happy when you come away and score four goals. Ferriby gave it a go and created some chances but we were strong today.” Okenabirhie broke the deadlock for the Daggers on 15 minutes following a quick break. And two minutes later the lead was doubled when another quick counterattack resulted in Hawkins hammering the ball home via the underside of the bar. Dagenham sealed the game on 33 minutes with a superb goal from Guttridge. He received the ball towards the left corner of the area and turned Ben Middleton before curling a shot well-beyond keeper Rory Watson. Danny Emerton and Levi Sutton both created problems as the home side pushed forward, although Elliott Justham was only forced into one crucial save, to deny Mark Gray. Both keepers had to make saves after the break before Dagenham wrapped up the scoring in the 62nd minute – Okhenabirhie finding Guttridge, who in turn laid off for Hawkins to slot home.
