JAY FINDS CURE FOR TRAVEL SICKNESS

- By John Featherstone

MAIDSTONE claimed only their third point from a possible 30 on the road at York – but might have even secured a first away win since September. Midfielder Reece Prestedge’s 47thminute equaliser earned the Stones a share of the spoils after fellow strugglers York only had an early Jon Parkin goal to show for their first-half dominance. The visitors went on to end the game strongest with Prestedge controversially booked for diving when he appeared to be hauled down in the box by home keeper Kyle Letheren and centre-back Kevin Lokko also going close with two headers. Maidstone manager Jay Saunders said: “Results have not been going our way, but that second-half performance is how we have been playing for long spells in games. It’s very tight down the bottom and we’ve got to look to go on a run and put a couple of wins together.” The home side started the game with all the confidence of a team who have now lost just one of their last ten games. Parkin opened the scoring after just three minutes when he slid in to meet Sean Newton’s left-wing cross at the near post at the end of a flowing move. Skipper Simon Heslop went on to threaten with a couple of 20-yard efforts, before Parkin thudded a volley against the frame of the goal. The second half was a different story, though, as Maidstone introduced big striker Alex Flisher and seized the initiative. After Worgan had saved from York striker Vadaine Oliver, Saunders’ men broke up the other end and Prestedge earned his side a precious point with a well-struck, 25-yard drive. York boss Gary Mills commented: “You could analyse the game all you want, but it boiled down to us putting ourselves under pressure by not taking our chances. But the point has taken us off the bottom and closer to a couple of the teams above us.”
