BLYTH SP 5 HEDNESFORD T 1

- By Jeff Bowron

BLYTH Spartans’ record-breaking year shows no sign of ending as Alun Armstrong’s side powered to another high scoring win.

Blyth just can't stop scoring, 27 goals in their last six games, and they have won all nine games in 2017 – their best return since 1975.

It took less than two minutes to breach the defence of managerless Hednesford, Jarrett Rivers scoring after good work from Luke Armstrong.

Rivers missed a good chance before he doubled the lead off the post following good work from Robbie Dale.

The Pitmen then dug deep to half the deficit when Vinny Mukendi's header hit the post and rebounded into the net in unfortunate style off Blyth keeper Paul Woolston.

Rivers and Dan Maguire had both missed chances before the break and Dan Crane saved well from Robbie Dale after the restart.

But when Dale's chip came back off the bar and Maguire's effort was blocked on the line Armstrong forced the ball home.

Dale waltzed round exposed keeper Crane to make it four and Blyth went nap when Maguire shot inside the far post from Armstrong’s set up.

It was another blistering performance from Blyth, who are 12 points clear at the top and unstoppable at the moment.
