SOLIHULL MOORS 3 SUTTON UNITED 0

- By David Lawrence

A DREAM debut from Regan Charles-Cook fired Solihull Moors to victory over FA Cup heroes Sutton United.

The on-loan midfielder, who celebrates his 20th birthday this week, struck twice in the first half and then set-up the third for fellow debutant Oladepo Afolayan.

“Regan is my sort of player,” admitted Moors boss Liam McDonald. “He’s high energy and athletic and he can play football. But he also knows when to express himself and when to keep it.

“That’s another clean sheet for us so that’s just one conceded in the last four games. We are trying to establish ourselves in this league and we are all going in the right direction.” It took the on-loan Charlton midfielder just 90 seconds to win over the Moors fans. A jinking run took him into the area and although his shot was saved by Sutton keeper Ross Worner, Shepherd Murombedzi pounced on the loose ball and fed Charles-Cook who tucked the ball into the net.

Sutton came into the game the more the half went on and five minutes from half-time Louis John was tripped inside the area. Jamie Collins had the chance to level from the spot only for his kick to be brilliantly saved by Solihull keeper Nathan Baxter.

And they were duly punished on the stroke of halftime when, while remonstrating to referee Thomas Bramall for a second penalty, Charles-Cook netted his second of the game after an interchange with Murombedzi. Afolayan turned in CharlesCook’s cross on 70 minutes to wrap up the points, leaving Sutton boss Paul Doswell disappointed. He said: “We got outworked at times by a very young, energetic side. “People said we deserved something but we didn’t because we conceded three and didn’t score any.”
