GUISELEY 1 EASTLEIGH 1

- By Tom Feaheny

JAKE LAWLOR struck with the last kick of the game to earn relegation-threatened Guiseley a precious point and leave Eastleigh still looking for their first league win of 2017.

Midfielder Lawlor stole a point with a smart finish in the sixth minute of time added on after James Constable had given Eastleigh the lead in first-half injury-time.

But despite scraping a point, Guiseley manager Adam Lockwood felt his side could have had more. “The lads are disappointed. We had some good chances in the first half, but you have to be pleased to get a draw after scoring so late,” he said. “We’ve made it ten unbeaten at home now, which is a fine run to be on.” Frustrated Spitfires boss Martin Allen said: “I’m disappointed to concede so late. We had chances and should have been out of it and the win ensured, it’s a big setback for us.

“I thought we showed some signs and impressed for most of it, we’ve worked really hard for the past two weeks.”

Guiseley twice tested Eastleigh keeper Graham Stack through Will Hatfield and Jake Cassidy, but it was the visitors who edged in front on the stroke of half-time, Constable taking a touch in the area and placing an effort into the bottom right-hand corner. Substitute Sam Muggleton should have doubled the lead with his very first touch, only to fire over the bar. And the Spitfires were duly punished when, after forcing late pressure, the ball found Lawlor in the area and the Lions youngster pounced with a good finish past Stack to earn his side a point.
