Charlie shoots down Magpies

- By Allan Mitchell

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD put a dent in Maidenhead’s title hopes, winning an excellent encounter at Vauxhall Road.

Maidenhead never really got going until the latter stages of the game but by that time the Tudors were two goals to the good and with better finishing, they could have been out of sight.

The first chance fell to the visitors when Dave Tarpey pounced on an error at the back but could only shoot straight at Jamie Butler.

Tarpey had another chance but fired wide before the excellent Charlie Sheringham put the home side in front on 32 minutes, curling the ball home after good interplay between Jordan Parkes and Jake Robinson.

Hemel should have gone two up early in the second period when Ben Greenhalgh hit the bar with Parkes blasting the rebound high and wide.

They did make it two when Sheringham did superbly down the right and hit a pin point cross onto Robinson’s head and he directed his header past Carl Pentney.

Dean Inman headed against the post for Maidenhead in the 63rd minute and the Magpies pulled one back a minute from time through Tarpey’s free-kick.

They then had a goal disallowed as Hemel ended with ten men following Reiss Greenidge’s dismissal.
