BORE DRAW JUST CAN’T INSPIRE OFF FORM PAIR

- By Sam Store

WITH both sides sitting comfortably in mid-table and on a dismal run of form, this never really had the hallmarks of a classic.

And so it proved as Boreham Wood and Bromley played out a dour goalless draw at Meadow Park with precious little substance.

But it was Bromley boss Neil Smith who went home the happier of the two managers following recent hammerings by Braintree and Aldershot.

“After last Saturday and Tuesday it was all about coming here and working from a base, which was a clean sheet,” Smith said.

“A draw was a fair result. I wanted a win, but I want a clean sheet more just to stop the rot.”

Boreham Wood now haven’t won in the league since early January, with their main issue being a lack of goals.

“We were lacking quality in the final third again” said Wood manager Luke Garrard. “We wanted to cause them problems with two up top but it was disappointing how few chances we were able to create.”

Wood did look more likely to score throughout and arguably the best chance of the game fell to right back Ben Nunn in the final minute. Nunn met Femi Ilesnami’s cross from the byline at the back post and looked to tap into the bottom corner, but Bromley stopper Ross Flitney was able to deny the full back with an incredible parry to his left.

Wood perhaps should have been ahead long before that. Angelo Balanta poked the ball into the side netting from a near-open goal situation early on, and Nunn had a fierce shot from the right cleared off the line by Jack Holland.

Bromley’s best chance fell to Lee Minshull midway through the second half, finding space in a crowded penalty area and hooking a shot low through the melee, only for Wood stopper Grant Smith to keep the ball out with a fine save. A point apiece edges both sides further towards safety, but they may yet have nervous weeks ahead if their poor form continues. Wood face Woking next week, looking to find their shooting boots again: “We’re not working the opposition ‘keeper enough” said Garrard.” Bromley travel to strugglers North Ferriby on next Saturday, but Smith isn’t expecting an easy game. “It’ll be tough next week, but we want to get to 50 points as soon as we can so we can relax and enjoy ourselves a bit.”
