MORGAN CAN SEAL THE DEAL

- By Jon Couch

AFC FYLDE boss Dave Challinor reckons new recruit David Morgan could prove the final piece of the jigsaw in sealing promotion to the top-flight.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international completed his move from league rivals Nuneaton Town this week for a five-figure fee.

And boss Challinor hopes the 22-year-old midfielder can prove the final straw for the Coasters, who lead the National League North table by 10 points heading into the final quarter of the season.

Morgan began his early career with Nottingham Forest before his release in 2014 prompted a move to Ilkeston. After an excellent season with the Robins, Morgan earned himself a move to Nuneaton the following season where he continued his impressive form.

“David has been on our radar for some time,” said Challinor, who secured his man on a one-and-a-half year deal with an option for a further year. “The opportunity arose to get him sooner than anticipated, which we were more than happy to do. It also means one of our targets for next season is already sorted.

“He’s another technically good player who will get on the ball and play forward. He is someone who we believe can play not only in the next division above, but higher still. I’m confident he will fit in really well here.”

Chairman David Haythornthwaite admitted the Coasters beat off competition from other interested clubs to land their man.

He added: “Morgan was someone the manager had on his list for next season, so we had to move fast. We became aware that several other clubs were interested in him, but Nuneaton wanted to do a deal now. We are happy to get it done.”
