HAWKS IN THE MOOD TO DOWN TOWNERS

- By Ken Brazier

HAVANT kept the pressure on league leaders Bognor in some style with a thumping win at play-off chasing Enfield, thanks to a powerful second-half display.

Havant took an early lead and despite the Towners levelling before the break, the result was in little doubt after Havant scored early in the second half. Twice.

Happy Havant boss Lee Bradbury told The NLP: "I thought we were well worth the win after a tight first half.

“Having learned some lessons from our home defeat against them, we were wary of Enfield's attacking threat.

“But, on a difficult pitch with a swirling wind, I thought we showed plenty of determination and resolve.”

Alfie Rutherford put the Hawks ahead on five minutes when he outpaced Percy Kiangebeni and slotted the ball past Town keeper Nathan McDonald.

On 12 minutes, Bradley Tarbuck fed Jason Prior, whose effort was saved.

For Enfield, Billy Crook’s 22ndminute shot was saved by Hawks keeper Ryan Young after Jordan Rose blocked Karl Oliyide's effort.

And Town levelled from the penalty spot eight minutes later when Oliyide was brought down by Rose and Crook confidently tucked the spot kick past Young's right hand.

Ten minutes before the break, Young saved with his legs from Muleba and Ottaway couldn't quite get on the end of an Oliyide cross from the left.

Campbell was thwarted by a timely Tarbuck tackle, and a Brian Stock free-kick drifted wide.

The second half was a different story as Havant upped the tempo.

They led on 49 minutes when a diagonal ball from Rory Williams on the left created confusion and Prior found space to apply the finishing touch.

And it was 3-1 three minutes later when a neat move from the right set up Wes Fogden to net with relative ease.

Town had few answers, although Percy Kiangebeni did have a shot just wide.

With 10 minutes remaining, Tarbuck put the icing on the cake as he went past Harold Joseph and finished emphatically.

Samir Bihmoutine and Kiangebeni were off target late on.

But sub Matt Paterson hit the post with an audacious curler at the death.

As Bradbury said: “All the lads carried out their instructions to the letter and we got our just rewards on the day.” STAR MAN: Bradley Tarbuck (Havant & Waterlooville) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
