IT’S FAREWELL TO BLUES BOY DAVIS

-

CRAIG DAVIS has walked out on troubled Fleet Town after six years to join Hampshire rivals Winchester City.

Player-boss Davis has performed miracles at Calthorpe Park, steering the club to a healthy midtable spot in the Southern League Central despite severe financial restraints following the death of chairman Steve Cantle just before Christmas.

But now, following an approach from Southern South & West rivals Winchester, highly-rated Davis has tendered his resignation, marking the end of a successful era at the club.

A Fleet Town statement said: “Very reluctantly, Fleet Town FC have accepted Craig’s resignation. We know that this was an extremely difficult decision for Craig, but given the difficulties at the club at this moment in time, we understand the situation.

“We’d like to thank Craig for the six successful seasons he has spent at Fleet Town, not only ensuring the club maintained its status as a Step 4 club, but also in developing a young squad that play the game the right way and with the spirit and drive to match that of their manager.”

Assistant Craig Martin took charge of the Blues’ visit of Marlow yesterday.
