East Thurrock condemned the Seagulls to a sixth straight defeat in a poor game at The Woodspring Stadium.

But the Seagulls should have taken the lead early on when Jacob Cane had a golden opportunity.

Lloyd Humphries’ ball into the box found the midfielder, but Lukas Lidakevicius was on hand to parry the shot out for a corner.

The second half started poorly with both keepers merely spectators. It took until the hour mark for there to be a real chance for either side and it fell to the home team. Brad Ash fought off full-back Kye Ruel brilliantly and played a perfect ball into Humphries. But the midfielder could only fire wide of the target.

The deadlock was broken when a defensive mix-up allowed Femi Akinwande – who is onloan from League Two side Colchester United – to slot home. Chris Barker lost the ball and Luke Purnell was unable to pick up the pieces and the striker took full advantage.

Five minutes from time, Reece Harris volleyed home from a free-kick that left Purnell stranded.

Akinwande then scored the goal of the game as the clock ticked over to 90 minutes with a thunderbolt strike from 20 yards before the hosts managed a consolation through Ash.
