POOLE TOWN boosted their play-off hopes thanks to a late goal from Luke Roberts.

On 77 minutes the decisive goal came when Abdulai Bell-Baggie’s long-range cross found Roberts unmarked to send an excellent header out of the reach of goalkeeper Craig Hill to gain the win for the visitors.

At the start of the game, a hopeful BellBaggie strike carried straight into Hill’s arms.

Ezra Forde made an excellent run for Oxford, but was denied by a block as he closed in on goal.

Reece Fleet was then robbed of possession by Baggie, but he put his effort way over.

Soon after City’s Scott Davies saw a free-kick met by the head of George Essuman, but he was off target.

Hill then did well to push away a dangerous effort from Will Spetch.

Matt Peake-Pijnen went close for the hosts when he placed his shot just wide of goal.

For the visitors, Nick Hutchings did well to parry a powerful shot from Fleet, before his opposite number blocked a close-range effort from Jefferson Louis. Davies sent a freekick high over the bar before Lee Henderson put in a soft header after Connor Furlong’s corner.

The game seemed set for a stalemate until Roberts had the decisive word.
