D’SEAN GOAL DELIGHT
LEATHERHEAD 1 WINGATE & F 0
LEATHERHEAD edged out of the bottom four when they edged out Wingate and Finchley at Fetcham Grove.
D’Sean Theobalds hit the 29th-minute winner to leave the Tanners in the muchsough-after 20th place.
Daniel Carr fell under a penalty-box challenge in the third minute but the referee waved away the penalty appeals.
And Carr had a great chance on 19 minutes but fired his shot over Gate keeper Will Gore and over the bar.
Both teams were finding it hard to hold onto possession for a consistent amount of time.
But on 22 minutes Theobalds set Jerome Federico away and he tested Gore with his shot.
Seven minutes later, Theobalds smashed a vicious shot into the back of the Wingate net.
Wingate’s Luke Ifil then had a shot on 33 minutes, which was taken comfortably by Tanners keeper Louis Wells.
Carr should have made it 2-0 on 40 minutes but he missfired. He also missed an open goal at the start of the second half.
Chances were at a premium for the rest of the half and Leatherhead held on in the end to take three vital points.
