FOLKES FINISH SINKS POLICE

- By Archie Dunnill STAR MAN: Omar Folkes (Merstham) ENTERTAINMENT:

MET POLICE 0 MERSTHAM 2

MERSTHAM moved three points clear of relegation and left ten-man Met Police looking over their shoulders when they capitalised on Met’s sloppy defensive display.

And the hosts’ cause wasn’t helped when full-back Sam Williams saw red on 59 minutes.

The Moatsiders’ Dan Bennett struck the crossbar in the opening moments.

And they opened the scoring on nine minutes when Tom Kavanagh powered the ball into the net following a fumble by Met keeper Brannon Daly.

Merstham came agonisingly close to doubling their lead when Bennett cannoned another effort onto the crossbar and Omar Folkes fired the rebound over from six yards.

Folkes had another chance to double his sides lead eight minutes into the second half and made no mistake this time around.

He found himself in the right place at the right time to poke home from five yards out after the ball ricocheted around the box.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts six minutes later when Williams received his marching orders

And they were unable to create any clear-cut chances thereafter.
