MATLOCK T 3 ASHTON U 0

- By Ian Richardson

MATLOCK won to reverse the result at Hurst Cross seven days ago when Ashton were 1-0 victors.

A 453 crowd roared Matlock to a convincing win, Ashton only troubling Matlock goalkeeper Phil Barnes in stoppage time when Barnes was down quickly to keep out a strike from Jack Dyche.

The main talking point of the first half came when Dyche was lucky not to be sent off for an elbow on Adam Yates on 37 minutes, the referee showing just a yellow card.

Michael Williams broke the deadlock six minutes after the break when Cleveland Taylor hoisted a clever ball into the box which Williams headed into a vacant net.

Dwayne Wiley came close with another header shortly afterwards, before goalkeeper Luke Pilling saved superbly from man-of-the-match Niall McManus.

Ashton’s physical approach counted for nothing as Matlock burst forward to score twice in six minutes to confirm the win.

Top scorer Marcus Dinanga broke clear to steer in his 31st goal of the campaign on 71 minutes before Adam Yates headed in a third from a corner on the left.
