ILKESTON 1 FRICKLEY ATH 0

- By Rod Malcolm

KEEPER Dale Eve preserved a rare win for Ilkeston but was sent off as this relegation clash boiled over.

His dismissal came in the third minute of added time when he retaliated after a challenge in the crowded penalty area.

The poor quality of the game was over-shadowed by a shoving match which involved most of the players and two Frickley substitutes who ran to the goal area to play a part. It then broke out again in front of the dug outs and there were more angry scenes as players left the pitch.

It contrasted with a quiet first half when Ilkeston scored the only goal in the first minute added before the break.Dexter Atkinson had a shot blocked and the ball fell to Bermudan international Tevahn Tyrell who lashed home.

It was a unique moment of quality in a turgid opening with Frickley’s Adam Priestley forcing Eve into a sprawling save seven minutes earlier.

The goal pepped up the game and Anthony Dwyer twice threatened.

But Frickley increased their efforts as the game wore on although Eve was excellent in goal before his early exit, denying the visitors several times.
