McMILLAN’S LATE HEROICS

- By John Walsh

WARRINGTON T 1 HEDNESFORD T 0

WARRINGTON kept alive their promotion dream as keeper Tony McMillan saved a last minute penalty.

The save meant the home side ran out 1-0 winners and sees them cement their place in the play-off positions.

Chances were few and far between in the first half with both sides being wasteful.

The only goal of the game came on the 31st minute when Mitch Duggan beat goalkeeper Dan Crane with a long range effort that the stopper probably should have done better with.

The second half saw one way traffic from the home side as they pushed forward looking to double their lead.

But Warrington were wasteful with their chances, Josh Askew struck the side netting just before the hour mark before Danny Hattersley fired over from just 12 yards out.

Minutes later Hattersley should have done better from a Duggan cross but could only pass it into the keeper’s arms.

Warrington then had a penalty appeal denied.

Against the run of play Hednesford looked like they were going to snatch a point as they were awarded a penalty. But Warrington’s McMillan was the hero of the day diving correctly to his right and saving Danny Glovers’ effort.
