ST’BRIDGE 1 GRANTHAM T 2

- By Nick Pullen

GRANTHAM did their play-off prospects a power of good by pulling off a prized victory at third placed Stourbridge.

Luke Shaw gave Grantham a flying start when he slotted home inside three minutes after Felipe Barcelos won possession and sent Harry Clifton racing clear down the left flank before crossing along the face of goal for Shaw to score at the far post.

Stourbridge came storming back in a bid to repair the early damage with leading marksman Luke Benbow firing just wide following a tremendous run and shot after 12 minutes.

Just two minutes later, Benbow did even better when he scored direct from a sublimely taken free kick just outside Grantham’s penalty area.

Stourbridge took charge from this stage and former Shrewsbury Town marksman Luke Rodgers was robbed of a certain looking goal following a last ditch tackle from Grantham’s Rhys Lewis.

Perfectly placed Lewis then saved Grantham with a goalline clearence to keep out a shot from Ethan Jones.

The second half was a different story as Grantham regained the lead within three minutes of resumption.

Stourbridge’s defence was caught napping as Shaw chased a through ball from Danny Meadows and beat Glassboys goalkeeper Matt Gould before calmly rolling the ball home.

Grantham went on to boss the second half as Stourbridge surprisingly struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
