CHESHAM U 1 CHIPPENHAM T 3

- By Simon Newbury

CHIPPENHAM TOWN stretched their lead at the top of the table with a comfortable win over outof-form Chesham.

The league leaders were immediately helped by some generous defending, when in the second minute Generals keeper Richard Hayward allowed a tame Dave Pratt header to slip through his grasp and into the net.

Eleven minutes later, a Matt Jones corner was headed in by the unmarked Will Richards to make it 2-0.

Chesham reduced the arrears two minutes later when Ryan Blake’s shot beat keeper Darren Chitty.

But Chippenham restored their two-goal advantage in the 24th minute when Jake Andrews converted a penalty that was awarded for a trip on Richards on the edge of the area.

Pratt could have scored a fourth Bluebirds goal on the half-hour, but lobbed over the bar.

Danny Talbot, returning as a Chesham player following his midweek appointment as joint manager with Jon Meakes, forced a fine save from Chitty before half-time.

Both sides had chances in the second half, but the result was rarely in doubt.

Hayward did well to deny Andrews, while at the other end Benji Crilley and Blake both came close.

Late on, Andrews and Pratt both missed glorious chances.
