CLANGER HANDS THE FLEET VICTORY

- By Sean Waters

CHESHUNT 0 THURROCK 1

THURROCK turned out winners away at Cheshunt in a hard-fought match at Theobald's Lane.

Thurrock took an early lead in the eighth minute when a wind-affected high ball into the Cheshunt area deceived goalkeeper James May.

It was harsh on Cheshunt, who had started brightly.

The second half was real nip-and-tuck football with both teams fiercely contesting every ball.

It was Thurrock who were making the chances as the game wore on and May more than atoned for the earlier error with several one-on-one saves.

At the end Thurrock hung on to a deserved three points and thwarted Cheshunt’s pushes for an equaliser.
