WITHAM FORCED TO FIGHT FOR WIN

- By George Vale

WITHAM 2 TILBURY 1

WITHAM Town edged a hard slog in a strong crosswind and blazing sunshine, as neither team ever really got on top.

Ryan Charles for Witham opened the scoring when in the 39th minute a long low shot deceived Clarke Bogard, the visiting keeper.

It was harsh on Tilbury who had started the game in positive fashion.

But the Dockers were soon level when they were awarded a penalty that Tony Martin converted easily.

The game did not improve after the break, but Witham scored what proved to be the winner when Max Bradford shot low, with the ball just creeping inside the post.

And it proved to be a hard-earned three points.
