Jerry spins Tanners up the table

- By Mark Murphy

LEATHERHEAD pushed themselves three points clear of fourth-bottom Kingstonian when two goals in three second-half minutes overcame Ks in a nervy encounter.

Jerry Nnamani’s 67thminute opener was something of a freak. But sub Nana Boakye-Yiadom showed a touch of class to make it two-nil.

And the Tanners deserved to hang on after Ks top scorer Ryan Moss pulled an 87thminute goal back.

The opening 45 minutes was largely bereft of clear

chances, although the Tanners spurned a fine opportunity right on half-time when Kadell Daniel wildly overhit a cross towards the unmarked Charlie Moone, who was six yards from goal.

Matters came to life on 65 minutes. Moss headed weakly at Tanners keeper Louis Wells after Lee O’Leary headed goalwards from a corner.

Leatherhead’s Jerome Federico had a shot blocked as Leatherhead broke quickly.

And the visitors led when Nnamani’s header from the corner was deflected onto the bar, the ball bounced down in the six-yard box and spun back towards goal.

And as Ks defenders collided in trying to scramble the ball clear, keeper Rob Tolfrey was unable to stop himself carrying it over the line.

Three minutes later, Boakye-Yiadom timed his run superbly to sprint clear of Ks square defence, rounded Tolfrey and finished coolly with his right-foot.

Moss headed home after sub Pelayo Pico-Gomez headed a long throw against the bar.

But Ks were unable to create another opportunity.

And Boakye-Yiadom was denied by a superb Tolfrey save in stoppage time after breaking through Ks rearguard once more as Leatherhead saw themselves home.
