BARWELL 0 WARRINGTON T 2

- By Oli Osborn

WARRINGTON Town moved into the top five with a well-earned victory at mid-table Barwell.

The Yellows scored a goal in each half to seal a sixth win in seven matches, even after the dismissal of Daniel Hattersley for a second booking.

Hosts Barwell had the upper hand in the early stages as Luke Barlone’s chip flew wide while Brady Hickey had a tame header from six yards saved.

But play-off contenders Warrington grew into the match, and took the lead through a comical own goal. McMillan’s punt forward created a mix-up between Liam Castle and Craig Stanley, and the latter saw his header clear the onrushing keeper.

Jimmy Ginnelly introduced two strikers off the bench after the break as the Canaries searched for an equaliser.

One of those, Ryan Baldwin, gambled on Callum Ball’s header back into the crowded area, but could not apply the finish.

Warrington defended excellently throughout the afternoon, but things became more difficult after Hattersley saw red for kicking the ball away when adjudged offside.

Despite being a man short, the visitors doubled their advantage with seven minutes to go. Substitute Scott Bakkor raced from halfway on the counter attack, turned well past lone defender Eddy Nisevic and smartly found the bottom corner.
