FRICKLEY A 0 GRANTHAM T 2

- By Keith Donkin

GRANTHAM were forced to dig deep but they did the business as they came away from a difficult and entertaining game with three points against Frickley.

However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the visitors. Frickley’s Gary Stohrer’s fine cross on three minutes went begging and was crying out to put away, but nobody latched onto it much to the home side’s frustration.

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute, Danny Meadows with a fine header as the tide started to turn the way of the visitors.

They increased the lead six minutes later when Luke Shaw finished from close range as the home defence failed to clear and already the three points looked like escaping Frickley.

Frickley’s new signing Zeph Thomas was close at the other end as they finally started to play and create openings.

Felipe Varcelos, Grantham’s number nine, was sent off on 49 minutes for a dangerous tackle but it did little to change the flow of attacks and appeared to make no difference to the way that Grantham were playing, as they still dominated proceedings throughout the remainder of the game.

Frickley’s Tyler Williams was clean through but keeper Kieran Preston blocked with his feet.

Lee Shaw hit the post for the visitors but the rebound was blocked as the chance went begging.

Home manager Karl Rose made changes but this did not improve the situation and relegation seems imminent now for the home side.
