BALA AND SAINTS TO CLASH IN CUP FINAL

- By Chris Smart

THE NEW SAINTS continue to chase their seventh Welsh Cup title after beating Gap Connah’s

Quay 3-0 in their semi-final at Bangor University Stadium to book their place in the final.

Both sides had plenty of chances to win the tie in a fastpaced game, with Jay Owen unlucky to see his close-range effort come back off the bar.

The Nomads matched TNS for the first hour until John Disney brought down Jamie Mullan in the box to concede a penalty. John Danby kept the score level as he saved from Christian Seargeant.

But the decision gave TNS a lift and they took the lead when hitman Adrian Cieslewicz fired the champions ahead. Aeron Edwards and Mullan added further strikes late on to seal the win and keep their hopes of a historic domestic treble-treble alive.

Bala Town will meet TNS in the showpiece after they struck late to beat Caernarfon

Town 3-1 at Rhyl’s Belle Vue. Bala enjoyed the better of the early chances, but the Canaries took the lead when Stuart J. Jones diverted Darren Thomas’ cut-back into his own net.

Half-time substitute Lee Hunt went close to an equaliser several times. but had to wait until the 78th minute to draw Bala level with a well-executed lob.

Bala went in search of a winner and took the lead with two minutes to go when Kieran Smith beat Alex Ramsay from close range before Hunt grabbed his second to seal the win. Meanwhile, Barry Town

United’s march back towards the Welsh Premier League continued after coming from behind to win 3-1 at Ton Pentre to remain five points clear at the top of the Welsh League Division One.

Nearest challengers Goytre kept their own title hopes alive, with the Gwent side running out 5-0 winners at Afan Lido. Haverfordwest County are seven points behind the leaders after their thumping 6-2 win over struggling Port Talbot Town.
