BYRON’S RETURN A BOOST FOR COX

3pm kick-off at Holker Street

-

BARROW boss Paul Cox wants to welcome back striker Byron Harrison against North Ferriby – and hopes he can lift the gloom.

The Bluebirds boss knows the play-offs will be out of the question if Dover and Aldershot don’t draw on Easter Monday.

Barrow are still mathematically in the equation but, even if they win against doomed North Ferriby, it will be over if one of the teams take three points at The Rec.

“Regardless of the situation, we want to win each of our last three games,” he said.

“We need to put on a display for our supporters on Monday first and foremost, because against Bromley we let down those who travelled all that way on Good Friday.

“It’s possible Byron could be back. We missed his quality today that’s for sure. He has that bit of class and sophistication, which we have maybe missed. We’ll see where we are on the day of the game, but we need all the help we can to put the Bromley defeat behind us.

“The good news is that he is with us next season so fingers crossed we can return to the team and give us a lift.”

Cox added: “We now need to look at what is going to be needed to push us on next season.

“That is not me being defeatist, it is where we are realistically. We need to improve and make this club stronger for next year and the planning for that has already started.”

Steve Housham knows his side are likely to be officially relegated back to the National League North tomorrow, but wants his players to bow out with a smile on their face.

“We have to take Friday’s performance to Barrow on Monday,” said Housham, who, it has been confirmed, will lead the club at Step 2 in 2017-18.

“We will travel with some confidence because we have a group of players who do not give up.

“We will go out and enjoy it, which is what we’ve tried to do all season.

“It’s a long trip, but the extra day off will help players recover. We want to show we have spirit.”
