Harnwell breaks duck for Lynn

- By Greg Plummer

STRIKER Ryan Harnwell notched his first senior goal as King’s Lynn held highflying Frome to a point at The Walks.

Harnwell struck the opener eight minutes before the interval but Jake Jackson returned the compliment late in the second half in a competitive game that Lynn should have won.

The Linnets, boosted by the return of four key players from injury, produced some of their best football of the season in the opening 60 minutes.

An early opportunity for the hosts saw Michael Clunan play in Ryan Hawkins, whose shot was turned behind for a corner.

A rare Frome attack in the first 45 minutes saw Mikey Bryant’s effort cleared off the line.

Visiting goalkeeper Karl Crabtree then produced a stunning point-blank save to deny Chris Ward the opening goal in the 35th minute, but two minutes later Hawkins’s persistence saw the ball fall for Harnwell to poke home from close range.

The in-form Crabtree then denied Lynn’s Kegan Everington with a brilliant stop on the stroke of the halftime break.

Frome went close to equalising at the start of the second period but Jackson’s effort was kept out by the legs of home goalkeeper Alex Street.

Jackson turned his marker brilliantly in the box to level matters eight minutes from time and there was still time for King’s Lynn to miss a great chance to claim all three points.

However, Sam Warburton, who did well to round Crabtree, could only hit the post from an angle for the hosts soon after.

Kieren Shipp produced a man-of-the-match display for the home side, who can now target a top-half finish if they win their final two games of the season.
