CHESTER V WOKING

3pm kick-off at the Deva Stadium

-

WOKING boss Garry Hill can’t stop checking the results on his phone as the Cards battle to stave off relegation.

Like those around them, Hill’s side would have come off the pitch after beating Macclesfield on Friday and seen that fellow strugglers Maidstone, York and Braintree had all won too.

The former Dagenham & Redbridge and Weymouth boss has never been relegated in his long-management career and he doesn’t intend to start now.

But he admits results elsewhere aren’t far from his mind.

“We’re digging in at the moment and we’ve had some big results recently,” he said. “It’s important now we clear our heads and concentrate on the next.

“I didn’t stop looking at my phone for the scores during the game, I’ll be honest! It’s something that is new to me, in respect of where we are in the league. It’s certainty a lot harder and certainly more pressure.

“We’ll go up to Chester knowing it’ll be a tough game but with good support behind us and carry on from where we are today. Nothing’s taken for granted in any way or form, we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

Chester have slipped of late and that has brought about some disgruntled murmurings from the terraces about their performances.

Boss Jon McCarthy feels his side deserve more credit and admits hearing boos from their fans have got his back up.

Instead he’s called for the Blues support to lend their backing.

“It’s important for us as a group and important for our home fans,” he said. “It’s not nice to get booed off at home like we have done lately and a little bit of me is frustrated with that.

“It’s a lot more important for Woking to beat us in terms of points and that was us last year. In amongst all of this as I’ve said before with this group of players to get booed off a pitch I can’t quite accept that after what they’ve done for us this season.

“We’ll be right on it and the players will be working hard to put that right. Come and get behind them. We are a little bit depleted at the moment and we need everybody together as I think it’s important for the club.”
