WIN WILL SEE OFF ROVERS’ HOPES

3pm kick-off at Nethermoor Park

ADAM LOCKWOOD says Guiseley need to remember why they’ve got so many points on the board this season.

The Lions looked to have inched their way out of trouble with four wins and two draws in seven games.

But two defeats in a row, including Friday’s to fellow strugglers Braintree Town, have kept them in a scrap at the bottom.

A bad start of five defeats saw Mark Bower lose his job, but his replacement Lockwood has long felt they have more than enough quality – the likes of Jordan Preston have impressed – to survive.

A win against Tranmere Rovers will ease those worries and boss Lockwood wants his team to keep focused on the task in hand. “There’s no time to feel sorry for yourself in football,” Lockwood said. “It’s been a journey that when we set off we knew we’d have set-backs. We’ve had lots of setbacks, but we’ve had lots of hard work and joy on the run as well. “So, nothing changes. We keep focusing on our goal. That’s what we’ve got to do and be about. “You look at the run we’ve been on – you don’t become a bad team overnight. I know how tough it is to get points at this level and we’ve got a lot of points. There’s still a lot of work to do and we’ll keep doing the right things to try and achieve that.” Following a 9-0 win against Solihull Moors last Saturday, Tranmere have been beaten by Forest Green Rovers and held to a draw by Aldershot Town. It’s put the title firmly in the hands of rivals Lincoln City, with the Imps also holding a game in hand, but boss Micky Mellon doesn’t want his side to treat Guiseley lightly. “We go again on Monday and get ourselves ready to try and get a result,” he said. “You’re expected to win games of football at this club and that’s what we’ll try to do. “It will be a real tough game there, but they’re all tough at this stage of the season. Nothing’s a given, that’s what makes it such a tough competition. We know that and it will be tough until the end of the season now.”
