MACC v SOLIHULL M

3pm kick-off at Moss Rose

-

MOORS boss Liam McDonald isn’t reading too much into the club’s sudden decline which has thrown them head first into the relegation mire.

Cool heads are what are needed according to the Solihull manager, who watched his side lose to York City – their sixth-straight defeat.

They have let in 11 goals in their last two matches and went below the Minstermen, just outside the bottom four.

McDonald was happy enough with his players’ response in their first match since the club’s “shocking” 9-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

On Monday they face Macclesfield Town and the Silkmen will be in no mood to relax with John Askey determined his side will not offer a repeat of Good Friday’s 1-0 loss at Woking.

But there has been a bit of a blow for McDonald in the build-up to the game at Moss Rose.

“We’ve lost Liam Daly for the rest of the season with an ankle injury which has hurt us but we’ve put Hafeez [Sanusi] in there and he’s done well against someone as experienced as Jon Parkin.

“But he’s come off feeling his thigh – he’s not played many games and I’m not sure if he’ll be fit for Macclesfield on Monday,” the manager said.

“But we’re looking forward to the Macclesfield game now and the supporters are going home having seen us put in a decent performance on Friday. I’m hoping that they follow us to Macclesfield now because we appreciate the support we get.”

Askey wants his team to get back to winning ways and is insisting on full focus despite their play-off chance now being over.

“We brought one or two players in to freshen it up at Woking but we, for whatever reason, didn’t compete. I don’t think we needed to do a lot, the goal we gave away was poor decision making, for them not to have a shot at goal and give a penalty away is criminal really.

“We haven’t come away with a point enough in games where there’s little in the game. I was disappointed with the performance.”

Macc have three league games to play after hosting the Moors. They travel to Lincoln City and Dover Athletic, before ending with a home game against SuttonUnited before the FA Trophy final.
