FIGHTING IMPS ON THE EDGE OF GLORY

- By Alan Johnson

LINCOLN CITY inched closer to a Football League return after a dramatic late comeback secured three valuable points at Sincil Bank.

Goals from Harry Anderson and Sam Habergham in the last three minutes sent the Imps five points clear at the top, after Ruairi Keating had put Torquay ahead.

Boss Danny Cowley heaped praise on match winner Habergham afterwards.

“It was an amazing freekick,” he said. “Obviously he’s a defender but he’s been magnificent for us in terms of goals and assists.

“We’re delighted to have him here and perhaps you could easily take him for granted because he is so consistent.

“Someone just said a win like today’s is what champions are made of, but champions are made of the team with the most points and we have 12 more to play for.”

The majority of the league’s biggest crowd of the season were stunned to silence 12 minutes from time as a sweeping move from right to left resulted in Keating prodding home Jamie Reid’s cross.

Lincoln introduced striker Adam Marriott and after his shot was parried with three minutes to go, fellow substitute Anderson was on hand to equalise.

Moments later the noise was deafening as Habergham blasted home a direct free-kick from 25 yards that left Brendan Moore with no chance.

Torquay boss Kevin Nicholson felt his side deserved more.

“We stuck to the game plan and did everything very well,” he said. “We competed physically and dug in after the way Lincoln started.

“Once we got through the first 15 minutes, we got to grips with stopping their crosses.

“As a result we grew stronger and stronger throughout the game but unfortunately two mistakes at the end have cost us.”
