WREXHAM 1 MAIDSTONE U 3

- By Mark Currie

WREXHAM manager Dean Keates said his players had only themselves to blame after slumping to yet another home defeat after taking an early lead against Maidstone United.

He said: “In the first 20 minutes the players did what we asked of them, we got some decent balls into the box and that’s where the goal came from.

“After that we basically gave them an assist for all their three goals.”

The Dragons struck early, Jordan White’s ninth-minute header from a Paul Rutherford cross proving too powerful for goalkeeper Lee Worgan but the visitors deservedly levelled on the half-hour through Joe Pigott.

And Wrexham’s frailties at the back were exposed once more after 52 minutes when Jamar Loza was allowed to run into the penalty box and beat Shwan Jalal at his near post. The home side then missed a penalty, Worgan saving the 63rd-minute spot-kick by Anthony Barry just a minute after he had come off the bench to replace Iffy Allen, and the barely warmed-up midfielder then fired over an unguarded net when the Maidstone keeper scuffed his clearance. The visitors wrapped up the points seven minutes from time with another simple goal, the unmarked Alex Flisher heading in Jack Paxman’s corner kick. Delighted Maidstone boss Jay Saunders said: “I felt we could cause Wrexham problems so we went very attacking and had four forwards on the pitch.”
