SOLIHULL MOORS 1 YORK CITY 2

- By David Lawrence

SOLIHULL MOORS boss Liam McDonald admitted his players had answered a few questions with their second half performance against relegation rivals York City.

Trailing to a Vadaine Oliver brace inside 31 minutes, the home side were thrown a lifeline just before the break thanks to a Harry White free-kick.

And they went on to dominate the second half only to find York keeper Scott Loach in outstanding form as he kept the Midlanders at bay with a series of fine saves.

McDonald said: “I’ve questioned the desire and commitment of the players over the last five games and asked how much they wanted it – they’ve answered me today and if we play like that over the next three games we’ll get some wins.”

Oliver broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when he reacted quickest after a well-struck Jon Parkin free-kick had struck the inside of the post.

And the former Crewe Alexandra frontman doubled his tally on 31 minutes with a calm finish after a neat exchange of passes down the left flank with Alex Whittle.

White pulled a goal back when he curled his first half injury time free-kick around the wall and it gave the Moors the boost they needed going into the second period.

But Loach was up to the task, pulling off three outstanding saves to deny White and another to thwart substitute Omari Sterling-James in the final seconds.

Delighted York boss Gary Mills said: “For 45 minutes first half it’s the best we’ve played. I thought we were solid, created chances and they were two great goals from Vadaine.

“Goals change games. We knew they were going to come out and put pressure on us but Loach has made two unbelievable saves.”
