You can’t beat a bit of Bullard!

- By Chris Fowle

LEATHERHEAD enhanced their survival chances by allbut killing off Billericay’s promotion hopes.

Jimmy Bullard’s team are up to 17th but they are still nowhere near safe yet with such little separating a huge number of clubs in what is an incredible relegation race.

It looked like it was going to be a difficult afternoon for the Tanners when Billericay earned a free kick on five minutes after a handball by Kadell Daniel. Jamie O’Hara took it but Danny Murphy headed it away.

An excellent finish into the top hand corner of the net, rifled in by lethal Daniel, gave Leatherhead the lead on eight minutes. Leatherhead were then awarded a penalty which Luke Moore missed as they failed to double their lead.

Billericay made them pay from the corner as Joe Ellul powerfully headed home into the net.

On 39 minutes Moore thought he should have had a penalty after he was pushed in the box but the referee waved played on.

Charlie Moone deals in goals and he made it 2-1 with a typical finish after half-time.

Jerome Federico thought he scored on 75 minutes but his shot hit the post as Alan Julian gathered the rebound.

A great tackle from Nnamani stopped Adam Cunnington netting an equaliser on 78 minutes but it was as good as over when Leatherhead scored a third on 82 minutes when Nana Yiadom pounced.

Billy Bricknell gave Glenn Tamplin’s team hope five minutes from time but it couldn’t inspire a great comeback.

For Billericay it is a big blow with their chances of reaching the play-offs are all but over.

Leatherhead know four points from their last two games may be about enough for boss Bullard to pull off the Great Escape.
