STALYBRIDGE CELT 0 TAMWORTH 4

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC’S 13year stay in National League North ended with a whimper as they were slaughtered by Tamworth.

Danny Newton’s perfect hattrick was enough for the Lambs to cruise home in a game Celtic needed to win to avoid the drop.

The game was over as a contest within 17 minutes, with Tamworth three-up.

Newton struck in the fifth and seventh minutes, his first goal a neat finish after a cross from Connor Taylor and the second a header from Taylor’s corner.

The third goal came when a cross was cushioned into the path of Ben Fox and he drilled home from the edge of the box.

The second half was a virtual non-event, with Celtic offering precious little, the exception being a header over an open goal from six yards by Matty Regan that summed up their terrible afternoon.

Tamworth secured the points on 66 minutes when Newton met a cross with a firm header which gave Celtic keeper Grant Shenton no chance.

They can hold onto ninth spot by beating Altrincham at home next weekend.
