Super Stiven has Beavers in the hunt

- By Mark Doig

WELLING UNITED 1 HAMPTON & R B 2

HAMPTON & Richmond Borough kept themselves in pole position for an unexpected playoff place with a dramatic victory at Welling United.

Alex Cathline brought a save out of Sam Howes from a tight angle in the first half but Duncan Culley was dangerous for Hampton and he was off target from a tight angle.

Just before the break, Leon Soloman let fly from 30 yards but it flew over and the first half finished goalless.

Culley again tested Chris Lewington after the break before the Welling keeper punched a Sam Gallagher free-kick over.

Dan Walker had a shot deflected wide for the home side before Beavers’ winger Christian Jolley was denied by Lewington.

Just 12 minutes remained when Hampton finally went ahead.

Substitute Stiven Rivic put the visitors in front with a header on the goal-line after a scramble in the penalty area but Rhys Murrell-Williamson equalised in the final minute with a superb free-kick from 25 yards.

Rivic wasn't finished though, beating the offside trap in the final minute and giving Lewington no chance to win the game.
