NEEDHAM MKT 1 BILLERICAY T 2
A second-half double from Billericay’s Jake Robinson ensured the points for the Essex side, but there was plenty of last-game drama and controversy at Bloomfields.
In the opening period, Needham’s Danny Gay pulled off a of good save to deny Danny Fitzsimons. The Blues’ Adam Cunnington also caused problems.
Billericay started the second half on the front foot and on 54 minutes the deadlock was broken. Robinson stabbed home from close range after Joe Ellul’s flick-on.
John Sands continues to thrive, with the striker ending the season in terrific form.
He netted an equaliser for the Marketmen on 74 minutes with a cool, wellplaced finish.
Sands will most certainly feel aggrieved after a stunning scissor kick that seemed to go in off the bar, only to have his celebrations cut short as he was controversially denied by the flag of the assistant referee.
With eight minutes remaining, the Reds’ Joe Whight was dismissed for a second yellow card with his frustration evident for all to see.
However, Robinson proved just why Billericay chose to sign him a few weeks back as his and Billericay’s second goal on 83 minutes was enough to seal victory in front a large crowd.
